Phenomenal Woman

A couple of years ago I joined the board of the Jeannette Rankin Foundation that helps non traditional age women finish their education. At a board meeting in Athens, Georgia one of the fellows came to share the meaning of this opportunity for her. She arrived wearing a gorgeous blue dress and proceeded to tell us a story about being “overdressed“ for the occasion. The dress was stunning! Her life accomplishment was phenomenal! I asked for her permission to take a picture for a proposed quilt. She agreed. This effort opened a new line of work. The quilt takes her picture and places it on a picture of an orchid that I took while traveling to Fiji. Computers and software helped my concept emerge. Phenomenal stayed in my mind so I contacted the estate of Maya Angelou and they gave me permission to use the stanza from her poem.
